Suggested feed Warehouse Design
Remarks:
- All feeds should be stored isolated from the floor. Pallets are the easiest way, but other isolation can be used.
- The space between the feed bags and the wall allows good air circulation and prevent condensation (development of fungii). This space should be of 20 cm. This space can also be used to place traps in order to control rodents.
- The shape of the roof enable to evacuate the heat via the top of the building through convection.
- To improve ventilation, fans have to be added in the warehouse.
- Screen must be placed at the aeration holes to prevent birds to enter in the warehouse. Bird faeces can spoiled the feeds due to Salmonella infestation.
- Stacking and managing (first in / first out) the warehouse is easiest when the feed is stacked on pallets. Mainly because the stacks of feed bags are strongest (don't easily fall down) when pallets are used. However, in case pallets are too expensive or not available, it is possible to stack the feed bags on it each other.
- It is advised to group the feed pallets or stacks with the same production dates and mark them accordingly.
